Your packing guide

Pack your boxes before we arrive on Dec 19. Our crew wraps and protects furniture and loads everything onto the truck.

4 weeks out
Start packing rooms you use least: storage, books, décor, out-of-season clothes. Set aside anything you plan to donate or toss.
2 weeks out
Pack most of the home. Use up frozen food and pantry items you don't want to move. Tell us about anything heavy, fragile, or that needs taking apart.
Week of
Pack the kitchen except a few daily items. Pack your first-night box. Reserve parking or a loading zone at both homes if your building requires it.
Dec 18
Empty and defrost the fridge and freezer at least 24 hours ahead. Take bedding off the beds. Finish packing so only the essentials you're bringing yourself are left out.
Dec 19, 8am
Clear walkways and entrances. Keep pets and kids in a separate room while we load.

Label every box

Write the room and a short list of contents on the top and one side. Mark SETTLE IN on kitchen, main bedroom, and bathroom boxes so we unpack those first on delivery day.

Pack smart

  • Heavy things like books go in small boxes, light things in large ones.
  • Fill empty space with towels or paper so nothing shifts.
  • Wrap dishes one at a time and stand plates on edge.
  • Photograph TV and computer cables before unplugging.
  • Tape screws and small hardware in a bag to the item it belongs to.

Keep with you

  • ID, documents, and anything you'll need to sign
  • Medications
  • Jewelry, cash, and other valuables
  • Keys, chargers, and laptops
  • A first-night box: toiletries, a change of clothes, sheets, towels, snacks, and a few kitchen basics

We can't move these

  • Propane tanks, gasoline, lighter fluid, and fuel
  • Paint, solvents, pool chemicals, and bleach
  • Aerosol cans and fireworks
  • Ammunition
  • Perishable food

If you're not sure about an item, ask us before moving day.

Winter driving

Mid-December roads can turn icy fast. A few things make the drive safer:

  • Get your car checked before the trip: tires, battery, brakes, and winter washer fluid.
  • Check road conditions and closures for each state on your route before you leave each morning.
  • Drive in daylight when you can. It gets dark around 5pm in December.
  • Keep your tank above half. Gas stations can be far apart on rural stretches.
  • Slow down and leave extra room, especially on bridges and overpasses, which freeze first.
  • Pack a car kit: blanket, ice scraper, flashlight, phone charger, water, snacks, and jumper cables.
  • Share your route and expected arrival with someone you trust.
  • If you get stuck in snow, stay with your car and run the engine only in short bursts with the tailpipe clear.
  • You don't need to keep pace with the truck. We'll text you updates and wait for you at delivery.
